What is Soft Pastel?
Soft pastels are a fine art, chalk medium. By adding multiple layers of chalk it creates a highly realistic and vibrant effect. Pastels come in many forms such as pencil, stick and pressed powder form. I use all 3 types to create different textures, fur types and fine details. I use many tools to blend the chalk including Sofft sponges, tortillons and blending stumps. Each portrait is drawn on the highest quality pastel paper available on the market, Pastel Mat. It has a unique texture that is velvety and lightly abrasive to hold the layers of pigment tightly without the need for fixatives. This paper is also acid-free which makes it archival quality to ensure longevity and the colors stay vibrant for years to come!
